Are Walmart Mickey Ears Worth It? My Honest Review of Disney World Knockoffs

By Kristin Glaeser-Cavazos · September 8, 2026

One of the most iconic souvenirs is, of course, a pair of Mickey or Minnie ears. But at park prices, buying multiple pairs for the family can make a serious dent in your budget. That brings us to the ultimate question: Are knockoff ears—specifically the ones you can find at Walmart—actually worth it?

We tried them out on our last trip! Let’s dive in.

The Pros: Budget-Friendly Variety & Fun

The biggest and most obvious selling point of knockoff ears is the price. They are significantly cheaper than what you can buy inside the Disney parks.

Because they are so budget-friendly, you can buy a fun variety of designs for very little money. On our last trip, this was a huge highlight! We had a fantastic time with everyone swapping ears throughout the trip and wearing new designs every day. It kept our park outfits fresh and added an extra layer of excitement without breaking the bank.

If you love matching your ears to your daily outfits or want to share with a big group, the affordability of Walmart ears is hard to beat (I got some of them on sale for as low as $5, and others up to $11).

The Cons: Durability & Quality Issues

However, as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. The major downside to these budget ears is their quality.

Unfortunately, some of the ears we bought didn’t even make it to Day 3 of our trip before they started falling apart. We had gems popping off and decorations coming loose before we even reached the halfway point of our vacation.

Also, the ears made of full-on sequins, are SUPER uncomfortable.

If you are looking for a long-term keepsake that will survive multiple trips (or even just one full week in the parks), these will probably disappoint you.

Our Verdict & Future Ear Strategy

So, are they worth it? It depends on what you are looking for!

In the future, I plan to change my approach. I will slowly collect high-quality Mickey ears direct from the park (or from a verified seller), even though they are a bit more expensive. Having a few sturdy, well-made pairs that last for years feels like a better long-term investment.

AND, depending on the budget, I will supplement (as needed) with some cheaper ears to round out our outfits and accessories.

(But to be completely honest, for our budget for the last trip, high-quality ears just weren’t in the budget. I am glad we did the Walmart ears, and the kids liked the different styles available. Our youngest is obsessed with the Nightmare Before Christmas, so we found a couple Jack Skellington ears from Walmart, and he wore those every day.)

Here’s my golden rule:

If you are just looking for a simple, plain set of Mickey ears with no extra decorations or glued-on gems, Walmart is perfectly fine! You get the classic look at a fraction of the cost, with none of the delicate parts that are prone to falling off. These are typically $3-5, and some of our family members would be JUST fine wearing these.

What about you? Do you prefer to splurge on official park ears, or do you stick to budget-friendly alternatives? Let me know in the comments!
